Long have I been into the worlds of fantasy and medieval times. Perhaps, it is there that my admiration and love for the Great Dane began. The vision of a noble prince looking over his realm with his loyal Dane at his side filling a young girl's daydreaming mind. Who can say, but I do know that after moving out on my own and rescuing my first Dane, there is no other breed for me.
What's in the name? The name Regal Rascals, to me, just fits the Dane. Like Robinhood, so noble, handsome, full of mischief and mirth.. Hopefully, over time when I begin a bloodline, it will bear ReRa's prefix. The "Re" for Regal and "Ra" for Rascals. Philosophy of the Regal Rascals We are a small home were our dogs are companions first and for most over all else, though striving to better the lines and breed itself. We place the upmost care into the selection and choice in our dogs and research the lines to ensure compatibility.
We follow a very limited vaccination schedule. Pups will receive the first set of vaccines but as individual shots on a week each basis. In other words no 6in1 shots, as we feel this overloads a young dogs immune system. Our dogs every third year will be Titer tested to see how their levels are. We do not crop our dogs ears. All our dogs in our ownership will remain natural eared unless medically necessary to crop. Though we do encourage to keep the pup's ears natural once they leave our home, it is entirely up to the owners in what they wish to do. We do recommend first time Dane owners do not crop. We do remove dewclaws. All puppies will be sold with a contract. Pups of off color and non breedable quality will be sold on a limited registration only and with a mandatory spay/neuter clause. Yes, we all think all dogs are gorgeous, but not all will add to the improvement a the breed. If one walks through a local pound, one can see there are plenty of unplanned breedings out there. All our dogs will be matched to a loving caring home where they will be a companion first, receiving the attention and care they deserve. As for showing, it once was limited only to conformation but now there is obedience, agility and flyball. There is even a show circuit that has a spayed/neutered and an off-color class for dogs that do not meet AKC show color standards, note these dogs must be fixed. All of thsse activities, and many more, are open to your Gr. Dane along with your more typical things like snoozing on the couch or sharing a romp in the park. |
